Lions got off to a good start and a well worked piece in front of the goal between Abi and Kim should have seen them take an early lead.
A corner gave them another opportunity and Kim narrowly missed with the ball almost trickling under the goalie's body.
Strong play continued with Lions' midfield pushing forward in support and more near misses from the two main strikers. Megan had very little to do in goal and when Brook End did make a break, Eloise made crucial big clearances.
Lions had a lucky escape in the first few minutes of the second half when Brook End blasted a shot against the cross bar.
Emily and Hannah M worked well in defence with Hannah pushing forward at every opportunity. A direct free kick from Abi just scraped over the bar. Christine also had a good scoring opportunity when she came on during the second half.
Unfortunately, in spite of Lions having far more possession and shooting chances they couldn't get the ball in the back of the net.
Woman of the Match to Eloise for her crucial tackling and clearances in defence.

Memorial Park U14 - 4
Despite the promising start made by Lions, Memorial Park soon took the lead.
A defensive error let Memorial tap the ball in from close range. This stirred the Lions into a comeback. A long range shot by Rob Gadsden made it 1-1 and good tackling by Ben Turner ensured this was the score at half-time.
The second half saw the Lions take the lead - Sam Blumsom made the Memorial net billow when he rocketed in a ball barely saved from a Lions' free kick.
Memorial tried harder now and their midfield was very adept at winning the ball. This led to them equalizing and eventually going ahead, but Rob Gadsden had goals on his mind. A curling long range shot made it 3-3.
It was a roller coaster of a game. Memorial went ahead 4-3 with a well worked goal but the home crowd knew Lions could equalize and spurred them on.
Never one to score a boring goal, Rob Gadsden made another long shot from the right wing, using his opposite foot this time. This wrong footed the Memorial goalkeeper and the score was now equal at 4-4 - the final result.

Friday night is music night
International theatre organist Les Rawle will be playing in Eaton Bray Methodist Chapel this week when 'Friday Night is Music Night'.
Admission is by souvenir programme only, which cost £5 and must be bought in advance.
Profits will be shared between the chapel and Northall District Age Concern.

Road Safety and Traffic Calming in Eaton Bray
Details of the road safety and traffic calming measures that have been discussed and implemented since 2002.

| Jun 2003 | Kerbs dropped for safety of push chairs and electric chairs. |
| Jul 2003 | PC Pollard advises more people caught speeding during the past year. |
| Sep 2003 | Councillor attends Chilterns Road Transport project for prevention of speeding through villages. |
| Nov 2003 | Road humps considered. Advised cost by Traffic Management at County Hall to the PC could be up to anywhere between £2,000 to £25,000 depending on what was found at the site of the humps plus consideration must be given to the emergency vehicles responding to a call. No one wants the humps installed outside their property! |
| Jan 2004 | Beds police advised no regular speeding activity will be provided by them until at least April. |
| Jan 2004 | Investigation of Chicanes along School Lane, information gathered suggested road not wide enough. |

| Mar 2005 | Speed assessment with S.I.D. taken at five locations in the village over 4 days by 5 councillors and 4 concerned village residents totalling over 13 man-hours given freely and readily. |

| Jul 2005 | Increased activity of HGV training vehicles noted, address sought for writing to training centre to stop/reduce use of village. |
| Aug 2005 | Police advised of youths lying in centre of road at dusk playing 'chicken'. |
| Sep 2005 | Clerk writes to HGV centre requesting them to stop/reduce use of village. |
| Nov 2005 | HGV centre advises they are not able to remove the village from their routes but instructed examiners to avoid Eaton Bray whenever possible. |
| Dec 2005 | 'Public meets Parish Council' meeting in Coffee Tavern, attended by 12 people. Concerns expressed were Speeding, Youth Nuisance and Hedges/Trees overhanging pathways. |
| Jan / Feb 2006 | PC Johnson completes random speed checks, two cautions given. |
PC Smith's team requested to attend village for further speed checks. Barry Fields and Beds CC invited to attend village and advise councillors on further traffic calming measures.
Cameras are in place in the village but speed checks are not normally carried out now by traffic police unless specific complaints are made, currently we are waiting for complaints made by the Parish Council to be dealt with. There are only three police officers in the county who carry out these operations. Village folk can help by making traffic/speeding complaints direct to the police.

Village Theatre Company Front Row will present (by kind permission of Josef Weinberger Plays) Wanted - One Body! by Charles Dyer.
A who-dunnit thriller with the accent on laughter!! Not one, but two foul murders will take place on Thursday 8th, Friday 9th and Saturday 10th June at Eaton Bray Village Hall.
Disappearing bodies, sliding panels and howls in the night - prepare to book your seats for a 1920's tale of murder and mayhem.

Eaton Bray Lions U12 - 3
Ampthill Town Youth B U12 - 0
Despite having only 10 players Ampthill made a very spirited start, causing strong defending by the home side.
After eight minutes of this, a break by EB Lions led to the first goal. A free kick by Jonnie Moriarty was fumbled by the Ampthill keeper into the net.
Now in the lead, EB Lions made numerous good attacks but the second goal didn't arrive until the 30th minute as the Ampthill defence closed ranks very well. Sam Marshall's 30 yard run and left foot shot over the keeper was probably his goal of the season.
In the second half Ampthill meant business and only the well timed tackling of Gus Thorne and Ross Taylor stopped them from pulling a goal back. EB Lions survived to start stringing some good passes together and the culmination of this was the third goal - a stunning lobbed volley by Morgan O'Connell, helping to earn him MOM.
Ampthill were not downhearted and kept attacking but an away goal eluded them. For the final 10 minutes it was end to end play but the score line was not to change from 3-0.

In a match dominated by the ferocious wind, Lions took advantage of the gale behind them with a great early goal by Rob Gadsden.
Minutes later a lofted ball was well controlled by Martin Coates who struck the ball home for Lions' second. A great cross by Rob to the far post was neatly tapped in by Stephen Broughton.
Dean Clark's goal-kick carried towards Wanderers' goal, their keeper misjudged it and Alex Kirkwood raced forward to score.
Alex Lay made an excellent clearance off the line and ran the full length of the pitch, deserving a goal for sheer audacity, but Wanderers' goalie had it covered. However, Wanderers managed to peg one back before half-time.
With the wind behind them in the second half, Wanderers fought back and scored another two. Shocked to see their lead diminished, Lions retaliated and a superb cross by Robbie Luck enabled Stephen to score his second. Finally, Charles Morris initiated a well worked attack on the left wing, passing to Martin who crossed the ball to allow Kirkwood to score his second.
Lions' MOM was Stephen Broughton for his impressive work-rate, but it was a superb team performance to overcome such difficult playing conditions.

Eaton Bray Methodist Church
Eaton Bray Methodist Church are holding a Coffee Morning in aid of Smile International on Saturday 8th April from 10am.
There will be various stalls including Cake and Bric a Brac etc. and light lunches will be served between 12.00 noon and 1.30pm. Please join us and help raise much needed funds for this special charity.
Easter Services
Good Friday April 14th at 10.30am. We are holding a United Service in our Chapel with our Salvation Army friends and this will be led by Mrs Jean Dimmock.
Easter Sunday April 16th at 10.30am. This will be a Sacrament Service and will be led by our minister the Rev. Peter Dudeney.

Camra Beer Festival

This event raises a lot of money for Eaton Bray Village Hall.
The trustees would be delighted if you could spare some time of the weekend to help run it. Please see Sally Taylor if you can help.
Council Counsels Council!
Eaton Bray Parish Council met with Eaton Bray School Council on Thursday 23rd February at the School.
The arrival at School of the Parish Council generated so much excitement! The School Council consists of elected members representing each class from Early Years to Year 4. Three members of the Parish Council were present as well as the clerk.
An agenda composed by the children was followed. After introductions and a description of roles, we moved to questions from both councils. The children (with a little help from parents I suspect) raised the issues of the position of the bottle bank, the equipment in the park, and litter bins in the village. The Parish Council answered all the questions in detail for the chidren. The bottle banks were placed in their current position because of its central location in the village. They have considered other sites but there have been objections each time. The equipment in the park is being inspected by park equipment specialists. There are litter bins in the village but often these are not used. The children are going to design some posters encouraging people to use the bins that are provided.
It was decided that the councils would meet twice yearly; once in the autumn term when the School Council would have newmembers, and once in the spring term to see how they have developed.
I would like to thank the Parish Council for their time, patience, and understanding in developing this new idea.
