Private Alfred Wildman 330931 Suffolk Regiment

Alfred was born in the High Street in 1892. Father David was a Bricklayer of many years standing employing men from the village and mother Sarah nee Holmes was from Tring in Hertfordshire.

Stories are that he started work Labouring for his father before going into the print trade.

Alfred enlisted in Leighton Buzzard in January 1917 and after training was sent to the Western Front in France in June of the same year where he fought at Ypres and Passchendaele.

At the Battle of Cambrai on 20th November 1917 he was killed in action age 25.
