Private Harold James Smallbones G/37164 'A' Company 1st Battalion Queens Royal West Surrey Regiment

Harold was born in Northall Buckinghamshire in 1888 to parents William Smallbones an Agricultural Labourer from Eaton Bray and Elizabeth nee Janes from Totternhoe.

Harold was a Labourer at the age of 12 on the 1901 census progressing to a Nurseryman at Wallaces in 1911.

In 1911 Harold married Lizzie Lugsden daughter of David whose family were to suffer major heart ache.

Only the medal card for Harold can be found showing that he joined up after 1915.

Harold was killed in action on 26th September 1917. The War Diary for the day had "A" Company at Veldhokk near the Menin Road during the Third Battle of Ypres.
