Theodore John Pratt was born in 1894 at either Valence End Farm or Poplar Farm where his father Frederick George Pratt born Heath and Reach had worked the land employing men and boys from the village. Mother Berthia nee Gadsden was born in Dagnall.

John as he was known at school was one of 7 children and a twin to sister Margaret. Attending Eaton Bray School he was captain of the 1907 Football Team.

The family were living at Ley farm in the 1911 census and John worked the land which was also a stock farm with another of Johns sisters Hilda occupation being Dairywork.

When war broke out John volenteered and joined the 2nd Battalion Bedfordshre Regiment. Landing in France in 1915 it is thought that he fought at Neuve Chapelle, Festubert and Givenchy. In 1916 he was at the Battle of the Somme and Trones Wood. He died on 8th August 1916 from wounds aged 22.
