Private Edward Groom G/37096 Queens Royal West Surrey Regiment

Edward was born in Water End Hertfordshire in 1885 to parents Charles Groom a Shepherd and Emily Maria nee Colyer both from Gt Gaddesden.

He began work as a Farm Labourer but on moving to the village he got a job at Wallace's as a Nurseryman. In 1909 he married Alice Bliss from Totternhoe and set up home in Summerley's in Eaton Bray.

It is thought that he enlisted sometime in 1916 in Luton and joined The 1st Battalion The Queens Royal West Surrey Regiment seeing action in France.

Edward died on 22nd March 1917 age 31. Buried La Neuville Communial Cemetery Corbie Somme France Grave B93.
