Private Ernest Fountain 241638 Middlesex Regiment

Ernest was born in 1889 in Moore End Eaton Bray the forth son to parents Edward Fountain an Agricultural Labourer and Sarah nee Emmerton. Growing up in Bower Lane he like his father took a job on the land and then became a Bricklayers Labourer.

In February 1916 he enlisted in Bedford joining the Duke of Cambridgeshire own Middlesex Regiment. On his enlistment, records show that he had served 4 years in the Beds Militia.

On the 1ih June 1916 he was posted to France with the Regiment and fought at The Somme and the Battle of Ancre.

Ernest was wounded on 29 April 1917 and sent home only to return to France on 2nd October 1917. 9 days later on the 11thOctober 1917 he was killed in action.
