Private George Farnham 5307 Bedfordshire Regiment

George FarnhamGeorge Farnham was born in 1895 at Orpington Kent. His parents were John Farnham a Farm Labourer born Epping Essex and Fanny nee Brigden born in Peckham London.

By 1911 the family had moved to Bisley near Stroud in Gloucestershire where George was a Farm Labourer and father John had become a Shepherd.

It is not known when George came to the village but all records from his service in the Bedfordshire Regiment have him as a resident of Eaton Bray.

George enlisted in Bedford in February 1915 the same day as his younger brother John whose number was 5308.

He was sent to the Balkans on the 10th August with the 5th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment and on 16th August 1915 he was killed in action at Gallipoli in the Battalion’s first battle.
