World Scout Jamboree 2015 - Gemma Johnson
My name is Gemma Johnson and I live in Eaton Bray. I've recently been selected as one of 300 volunteers to represent the UK at the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan in 2015.
I applied to be a volunteer because I wanted to help young people have the once in a lifetime opportunity to meet Scouts from all over the world that I had in 2011 when I was chosen to be a participant in the 22nd Jamboree in Sweden.
My experience as a volunteer will be very different from when I went as a participant and the jobs that I do could be anything from running workshops, catering or cleaning toilets.
However, in order to attend, I need to raise about £2000 to cover my own costs and to subsidise those Scouts coming from poorer countries.
I will therefore be organizing various fundraising events over the coming months; please see my advert for more details on a treasure trail that I'm organising on May 3rd.
I am organising a quiz night on 6th September- more details to follow.
As well as this I am also collecting clothing, shoes and household linen so if you have any that you could donate, please get in touch to arrange collection.

Proposed introduction of 50mph speed limit on B489 Tring Road and Icknield Way

CENTRAL BEDFORDSHIRE COUNCIL PROPOSES TO INTRODUCE A 50MPH SPEED LIMIT
ON B489 TRING ROAD AND ICKNIELD WAY, DUNSTABLE, TOTTERNHOE AND EATON BRAY
Reason for proposal: The proposed Order is considered necessary for avoiding danger to persons or other traffic using the road and for preventing the likelihood of any such danger arising. The proposed 50mph speed limit is intended to cover that length of the B489 Tring Road and Icknield Way that is partially built-up and where there are local concerns about excessive vehicle speeds.
Effect of the Order:
To introduce a 50mph Speed Limit on the following length of road in Dunstable, Totternhoe and Eaton Bray:-
B489 Tring Road and Icknield Way, from a point approximately 203 metres south-west of its junction with The Avenue, Dunstable extending in a south-westerly direction to a point approximately 100 metres north-east of its junction with B4506 Dagnall Road, Eaton Bray.
Further Details may be examined during normal opening hours at Dunstable Library, Vernon Place, Dunstable LU5 4HA or online at www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/publicstatutorynotices. These details will be placed on deposit until 6 weeks after the Order is made or until it is decided not to continue with the proposal.
Objections should be sent in writing to Transportation Manager, Central Bedfordshire Highways, Woodlands Annex, Manton Lane, Bedford MK41 7NU or e-mail [email protected] stating the grounds on which they are made by 4 April 2014.

Countywide Car Parts Theft - Warning
Detectives undertaking a countywide investigation in to the theft of car parts are warning motorists to take extra care when they park their vehicles.
Operation King, a dedicated initiative to crackdown on those who steal vehicle parts from high performance vehicles, such as Astra, Corsa and Insignia VXRs, in the county has been running for a number of months. Dedicated officers have been working to arrest those people who trade in stolen parts with eight commercial and residential addresses being searched and five men being arrested so far.
Work is also being undertaken by the team to gain a better understanding of the market for these stolen car parts and police have recovered several tens of dozens of stolen parts during enforcement activity.
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Middleton, said: "Identification of recovered parts is on-going but we are very keen to have any relevant information from the public, either directly to the Force or through Crimestoppers to help us tackle this on-going problem. We are particularly interested to hear about any outlets where suspected stolen parts are being traded."
He continued: "The public can also assist us by property marking their items using any of the commercially available property marking products, which may help us to identify stolen parts and to bring offenders to justice more rapidly. If your vehicle is fitted with an alarm than please make sure you use it whenever you park your vehicle, and if possible, park your car in a well lit area. The reduction of vehicle crime has been a long-standing priority for Bedfordshire Police and the loss and disruption caused to victims clearly illustrates why this type of crime is taken so seriously by us."

Pantomime
Our thanks go once again to Pete & Ronnie Farrar for staging their seventh annual village panto.
Over the years, they have worked tirelessly for our community and deserve our utmost thanks for delivering a community project that almost every other village would envy.
Sadly, however, they have expressed the wish to hand over to someone new although they are more than happy to continue to help behind the scenes.
As a result, The Players Committee is presently trying to find a successor for 2015 and beyond.
