CricketThe Eaton Bray sunday team began the season on a sunny April day down at The Rye with a traditonal curtain opener against neighbours Totternhoe C.C.

Captain Peacock decided to be a useful tosser and confidently put his team into bat and opening pair Hosking and recent recruit Dan Owen started briskly putting on 52 before Owen fell for 14. Wes, looking in fine form finding it too easy to pick runs off at will, smacked the ball to all parts, and along with Peacock kept the scoreboard ticking at 10 an over. However, the thought of a cup of orange juice at the drinks interval clearly sounded a good idea and he decided to retire after hitting 5 sixes and 19 fours in a mammoth 134 putting on a second wicket partnership of 141. Flecknell joined Peacock and the ball continued to go across the rope from both parties until Jimbo edged behind for 18 and shortly after Peacock put one down the mid wicket fielders throat for 50. Useful lower order contributions from Barm (14), Old Spice (11) and Brendan 'Boots' Hoffman with 20 including a six over cow corner (believe it or not) allowed the Bray to end on a huge 269 for 5.

Jake had clearly missed the tea lady's food over the winter and followed the lads out to field, with everyone feeling a few pounds heavier to say the least. Eaton Bray legend Georgie Coughtrey opened up with Boots Hoffman and the pair kept it tight bowling in good areas and made sure the Totts batsman couldn't make a good start, although Flecknell and Barm were doing their best to help the opposition with comical fielding. Coughtrey made an early breakthrough with Wray finding the edge to Hoffmann for a good low catch in the slips for 14 and Simpson followed soon after with Spicer boring him to death for 9. With the run out of Hird by Hoffman/Hosking for 1 Bray were making constant breakthroughs and had it not been for D'Archambad with a patient knock of 60 and a brisk 35 from Cole who took a liking to the bowling of Spicer, the final total of 167 would have been much less. MJ and Georgie favoured the conditions and both finished with figures of 6-1-8-2 and 8-4-13-2 respectively.

A good win for Bray first up with a victory of 102 runs, well done lads.

-- Great Tosser
