Return to weekly bin collections

With the predicted rise in world-
wide temperatures apparently
imminent is it not dangerous to
leave rubbish uncollected for any
prolonged period of time.   Since
rubbish collection began it has
always been done weekly up until
recently, with the health service
under increased pressure, would it
not make greater sense to maintain
a weekly collection in order to
minimise the risks of a possible
epidemic caused by rubbish lying
uncollected for long periods?

The Parish Council contacted Central Bedfordshire Council with residents concerns and have received the following response regarding the fortnightly refuse collections (AWC): “…the issues of public health were thoroughly explored… Environmental health professionals generally agree that AWC does not pose a health risk provided householders take precautions... The introduction of AWC has been very successful…total amount of waste collected has reduced, increase in recycling has been very significant and the cost of waste management has been kept as low as possible.” Residents with concerns should contact Central Bedfordshire Council direct on 0300 300 4344.
