If anyone can help me confirm / decline the following I would be appreciated as I am writing from Australia and viewing the necessary records is not possible.
I am researching James Scott (born 1835/6).
According to 1861 and 71 Census (he had settled in Hemel Hempstead by then)his place of birth was Edlesborough, however I can find no record of birth for a James Scott up to 10 years either side of that date.
What I have found is indicated in my notes below.
NOTE by RAY SCOTT - 20/04/2015
James listed his birth year as 1836 and birthplace as Edlesborough, Buckinghamshire in the 1861 and 1871 Census returns and his 1858 marriage details. This I feel is possibly in error as from this information I have not been able to substantiate a birth entry either for Edlesborough or any other Buckinghamshire town for 10 years either side of the given date. In the marriage transcript James' father is listed as James (Deceased - this event has to have occurred earlier than the 1858 marriage), the marriage took place in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire.
As Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire adjoin each other I widened the search to other neighbouring shires (Bedfordshire, Middlesex, Surrey, Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire).
I found a James Scott in the 1841 Census for Bedfordshire, of the right age, residing with a Robert Scott; as there was also another child of the same age as James with a listed birthplace given as Bedfordshire whereas James' birthplace was indicated as (-) which I took to mean unknown or not Bedfordshire. I looked into Robert Scott's parentage, on the LDS Family Search site, I found that Robert had a brother James who also died in 1837(Just 12 months after the supposed birth date of James). The family appeared to originate in Eaton Bray, Bedfordshire.
Eaton Bray lies approximately halfway between Totternhoe (where James appears in the 1841 Census) and Edlesborough where he claimed to have been born. The location and year still a difficulty but there now exists the possibility that James may have been taken in by an uncle on the death, I found that the potential father died in Eaton Bray, of his father; but who was and what happened to his mother?
Widening the search for a marriage between James senior and a potential mother, I found a marriage between a James Scott and an Elizabeth Bates, in 1831 at Dunstable, Bedfordshire, here was a possibility as Dunstable is also very near Eaton Bray and Edlesborough. Further searching revealed that an Elizabeth Scott was buried on 24/11/1835 in Eaton Bray.
Search for a James Scott birth in 1835, anywhere in Buckinghamshire or Bedfordshire, I found that there was a James born to a Father James and Mother Elizabeth on 15/11/1835 in Eaton Bray, Bedfordshire.
As I have not found any recorded infant deaths for a James Scott between 1835 and 1837 (the death dates for mother and father), it is my belief that our ancestor James was born in 1835 in Eaton Bray.
FURTHERMORE for James Scott Born 1805:-
Having decided that James Scott (born 1835(6)) was orphaned and raised by Robert Scott in Totternhoe, Luton, Bedfordshire, I tracked Robert's Ancestry through the LDS Family Search site and found James (born 1805); parents Thomas and Alice.
Therefore the information about James (born 1805) is premised on the LDS information.
Thanking you all in advance

Followed census and as you said all born Edlesborough or in the case of 1841 not born in Beds.
There is a death in Hemel Hempsted for a James Scott in 1872 age 36.
Followed his wife Susan to the 1881 census where she is living in Marylebone London with daughters Lizzie and Ruth as a widow.
Which of his children lead you to James 1835 please.

Tom n Harry,
Ref lead #2293
Thank you for the information.
Taking a line from James - 1835 my line descends:-
James - 1861 (Hemel Hempstead)
James Frederick - 1892 (Battersea), migrated to Australia 1911.
Walter Graham - 1926 (Rockdale, NSW, Australia)
Raymond Thomas - 1950 (Sydney,NSW)
The death of James you found in Hemel Hempstead, his 1861 Census details showed Edlesborough was my lead to James 1805. This premise is based on the proximity of Edlesborough to Eaton Bray and the common Church of St.Mary the Virgin.
The marriage record of James 1835 showed his father to be James (Deceased), therefore when I found James 1805 appeared to be the only James to have died near Edlesborough the connection seems to make sense.
If you have any leads on Thomas and Alice I would appreciate the help,as they will be my next trace.
Thank you again
Ray Scott

I am trying to trace Thomas Scott's origin and would appreciate if you could advise if his parents are listed in the marriage register. This has happened sometimes and helps give correct line when multiple choices available.
Thanking you in advance.
Regards
Ray
