Rowe (Roe) Smith

Hi
I am rather new at this and am looking for information regarding Samuel Rowe born circa 1783 in Eaton Bray and Ann Smith born circa 1787 Eaton Bray. I believe they had a son, George born circa 1811 and think that the surname spelling changed from Rowe to Roe. Any information would be appreciated. Samuel and Ann are great, great, great, great grandparents.

Hi Mary...Can't find baptism for Samuel or Ann as yet but found their marriage in Eaton Bray Parish Records....Feb 4th 1808 Samuel Roe , bach to Ann Smith spinster both of Eaton Bray....Baptism...March 3rd 1811 George son of Samuel & Ann Roe.

Found a baptism for Samuel on the Eaton Bray Community Tree on the history page which tie's in with later census entries....8th Feb 1789 Stewkley Buckinghamshire...Ann is born in Totternhoe Beds which is the next village to Eaton Bray.

1841 Census living Church End Eaton Bray...Samuel Roe,50,Tailor...Ann Roe,50...Robert Roe,25...Phebe Roe,2...Joseph Roe,14...Joseph Roe,4...Looks like the younger Joseph is a Grandson to Samuel...Only Ann is born in the county.

This is great! Thanks. Have you come across any more information on George Roe (Baptism March 3, 1811)? I think that he married Sarah Sheffield (b. 1805), Ivinghoe. They then in turn had a son, George b. circa 1834-35 in Luton?? Again many thanks

This is all very interesting and helpful. I noted that the son, George, does not appear in the 1861 census. I know that he immigrated to Canada (Hamilton, Ontario) so must have done so before 1861. George married Eliza Robbins (b. c. 1853 in London??) on 14 September 1872 in Ontario, Canada. They had two children Charles (b. 1873) and George. Thank you so much for all your assistance and help. I suddenly have a lot more relatives.

The George you mention going to Canada....I have found a George Roe born c1834 Luton Beds on census from 1861 to 1901. His children are Charles,William.James,Emma,Sophia and Albert.Wife name Elizabeth.

Struggling with Smith side but possible parents are Edward Smith & Ann Burrows married Eaton Bray August 15th 1782 and both of the parish...Will search more when I can.

The George Roe that I am familiar with went to Canada and was married there in 1872 (1873). His parents were George and Sarah - same as what is here so could there possibly be another George Roe who had parents with the same name?

Hi Mary...Don't know the names of the parents of the George I have found because he only seems to appear with his wife on the 1861 census when your George has gone to Canada.Can't find him before.....There is a marriage for him on 30th June 1858 to Elizabeth Hague at St Marys Luton Beds.Grooms age is 25 and brides age 23.

Thanks for all your efforts. I think that my George Roe (b. 1834) is not the one who appears on 1851 census as the son of George Roe and on the 1861 - 1901 census as head of house. I know my George was in Canada by 1872-73 as I have a copy of his marriage record. Back to the drawing board!

1841 census shows Robert Roe living at Great Green Eaton Bray his occupation being a Tailor. Maybe brother to Samuel. I think he died in 1846.
