Hello,
My ancestors Joseph Rolfe and Charlotte Herbert married in Eaton Bray on 24 May 1827. As far as I'm aware they had 4 children, as well as grandchildren in the village.
I am descended from their son James, who was born in 1829 and died in Leighton Buzzard workhouse in 1903. He was committed to Bedford County Gaol in 1869 for "neglect of family".
James had a daughter called Mary Ann who was born c1870 and died aged only 5 or 6. His wife Ann (née Watts) died in 1875 and I am not sure whether she is buried in the village. According to census records, she was born there in around 1829, but I haven't found a christening for her as yet.
Their daughter Sarah married Fred Church in Eaton Bray in 1877. They had had a son (Arthur) there in 1876.
I would be grateful to learn anything more about the Rolfe family. I live in Scotland so visiting a records office would be difficult.
Thanks for your help
- Lucia

In 1871 the family were living in Edlesborough Bucks the next village to Eaton Bray.
Think maybe both Ann and Mary Ann could be buried there.

Hello,
Thanks so much for your help and the information. :) I have the details for William Rolf and Ann Turney's marriage but so far I haven't managed to take the line back further.
James did marry 3 times. Ann died on 28th July 1875 of "cancer of the head" according to the certificate. Ann had a son called William Watts in 1848 (who later became William Rolfe). He appears on the 1871 and 1891 census but I haven't found him in 1881. I'm hoping that I can find out some more about James' time in the workhouse as well.
I believe his grandfather Richard Herbert was born around 1754 in Eaton Bray.

Hi there, my ancestor Thomas Fountain or Founten (I think referred to as the elder) married a Jane Rolfe who died not long after and then Mary Rolfe and they lived in Cheddington (way back in the late 1500s - are they any relation to your Rolfes? If so would love to hear from you.

Looking for any help on my 6th G. grandmother named Sarah Fountain, born 1674. I think she may have had a twin brother named William? Their father is Thomas (I think) can anyone identify which Thomas Fountain. Sarah went on to marry John Preswell. Many thanks.

My 3g-grandfather William Henley (born Woburn 1782 is listed as the father of three sons, two of them born 'out of wedlock'. Those two were William Ralph (son of Anne Ralph), b.16/4/1811, and Joseph (most likely, son of Mary Ralph, Anne's ekder sister), b.23/12/1799. Both were born in Woburn, but both disappear from the Woburn records. Mary Ralph later married John Nott in Woburn. Maybe one or both of these boys fit a Rolf family tree in Eaton Bray?
