I am researching my ancestor Jabez, son of Richard and Sussannah. I have been finding out about a riot he was involved in in 1846, along with some other men. Does anyone know anything about this? He was sentenced to a month hard labour but the others were acquitted.

Think i read somewhere that it was in the 5 Bells pub and concerned the lateness of Poor Law payments.Jabez was one of nine men given 1 calendar months hard labour for "Riot and assault upon a peace officer".
