My 9x Great Grandparents were John Tompkins & Elisabeth Cocks who hail from Eaton Bray but married in Edlesborough in 1579.
I can't find Elisabeth parents but Johns's father was also John Tompkins and his father was William Tomkins (no 'p') who was married to Alys Layton in Houghton Regis in 1539.
John & Elisabeth's 3rd (of 4) child is another John Tompkins and his eldest daughter, Mary married my 7x great grandfather, Laurence Costine whose birth record I cannot find. The Costin/Costyn/Costine families remained in Northall for 3 centuries.
Do you have any records of the above families?

Im interested in this, as I believe (but haven't yet been able to prove) that my 'Tomkins' also converge in Eaton Bray...
btw - the 'P' is interchangeable, as is various other spellings depending upon who was writing it down...

Jack - I can with some certainty trace my ancestors back to Rev Thomas Tomkins of Houghton Regis, c1607. I cannot, however, connect the Eaton Bray\Edles\Northall Tompkins to mine.
