Growing Complaints
Bedfordshire carnation growers complained it was becoming more difficult to complete on price with imported flowers.
They accused Dutch and other European growers of 'dumping' up to 6,000 dozen carnations a day in this country.
Managing director Mr D.G. Robbins, of Eaton Bray firm W.E. Wallace and Son, said: "The foreign carnations are selling in this country at 2d a bloom. It cannot pay the Dutch to sell at such a price, after paying for freight, rail charges, tariffs, commission and handling charges."
