The Labour In Vain - 1900
1900: The building shown in this drawing used to be a Public House called 'The Labour In Vain'. The sign depicted a small coloured boy, sitting in a bath, being scrubbed with a wooden handled scrubbing brush. The sign would certainly not be allowed in the political correctness of today.
